Born in New York City in 1926, Alan Greenspan is an American economist, banker, politician, entrepreneur, jazz musician, and consultant. He was educated at Columbia University, the Stern School of Business, the Juilliard School, and George Washington Educational Campus. He served as Chair of the Federal Reserve and Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers.
Greenspan is best known for his tenure as Chair of the Federal Reserve from 1987 to 2006. He was a member of the American Philosophical Society and the Group of Thirty, and received numerous awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, Commander of the Legion of Honour, the Francis Boyer Award, and the Paul A. Greenspan was married to Andrea Mitchell and Joan Mitchell Blumenthal. He was influenced by Ayn Rand and was a member of the Objectivist movement. He shared membership in the Group of Thirty with Mark Carney and Kevin Warsh. Peter Thiel was also influenced by Ayn Rand.
